Membership and Baptism

Being a member of The Church at Argyle

What does it take to be a member at Argyle?
Our members are committed Christ followers, born-again believers who have scripturally baptized by immersion after conversion. Our members have also attended one of our Membership Commitment events and have signed our Membership Commitment.

I am already a member of another church. Can't you just transfer my membership?
We are happy to inform your previous church of your desire to be a member at Argyle so they can adjust their records, but we still require that you do everything outlined above.

I have already been baptized. Does that count?
Maybe. Speak to us. Read below about our understanding of baptism.

OK. I am ready to sign up – when and where?
We hold the Membership Commitment lunch every fifth Sunday following the Worship Gathering. Watch online and in the weekly Argyle Connection for announcement of the next opportunity.

I still have some questions. What do I do?
If you have any questions about membership, salvation, baptism, or faith, or what we believe and practice as a church, speak to us following Worship each Sunday, call (904-777-1238) or come by the office weekdays, or email us. We are always happy to talk to you.

About Baptism

Baptism is an important act of obedience. It is our public identification with Jesus Christ as our Savior, and with other Christians.

The blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross is the only basis for the forgiveness of our sins. Salvation (or conversion) occurs when we place our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus as sufficient payment for our sin debt.

Once saved, we are ready to be, and ought to be, baptized. Married couples show the world their love and commitment to each other by wearing symbolic rings. Christians show love and commitment to our Lord through the symbol of baptism.

Jesus instructed us to be baptized, so it is an important act of obedience. Baptism is not necessary for salvation, but it shows the world our submission to God and our identification with Jesus as Lord.
